Poland rejected that it was hosting a secret CIA prisons in a response to the European report, which says that there are proofs for the existence of such detention centers. "Poland maintains its position... There were no secret centers in Poland," a foreign ministry spokesman said. Swiss senator Dick Marty claims in a report that Poland “had held”, after 9/11 some of the CIA's most wanted “terrorists” and question those, who might be of a high importance to the United States. Poland is not the only country which met the accusation. According to Marty, Romania also had hosted the CIA prisons, but they as well denied the allegations. The report stated “that Poland's then-president Aleksander Kwasniewski, head of National Security Bureau Marek Siwiec, Defence Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski and head of military intelligence Marek Dukaczewski were aware of and could be held accountable for the operation of CIA secret prisons in Poland.” (Reuters) Kwasniewski and Szmajdzinski declined all accusations. Kwasniewski said he denies that “there were any secret prisons in Poland and I deny having approved such prisons or having known anything about them," (Reuters) Poland is one of Washington's leading allies in Europe. It is negotiating terms for placing elements of a U.S missile defense system on its soil. (Reuters) |
