Polish immigrants have always targeted London as being a prime area for relocation. Aside from being a bustling city in the present, it provided Poles with a safe haven to which they could go and escape the destruction of World War II. With Poland being so well-represented in the London populace, it goes as no surprise that that city boasts one of the world’s top Polish culture centers.

Run by the Polish Social and Cultural Association, the Polish Cultural Centre in London provides immigrants and those of Polish lineage with a way of remaining connected to their heritage. While it is geared toward immigrants and their descendents, it is also a good way for all Londoners to immerse themselves in this foreign culture.

The Polish Cultural Centre is one of the best of its kind. While it provides amenities such as an art gallery, a 350-seat theatre, and a Jazz club, its crown jewel is the massive Polish library. This library contains more Polish literature than any other library in world outside of Poland itself. With such a wealth of Polish history and culture stocked up in its walls, the Polish Cultural Centre provides a perfect spot for all those in London to enjoy the culture.

The importance of this center as well as the Polish community as a whole was not lost on Ken Livingstone, London’s mayor. After taking a tour of the building in late July, he complimented the Polish Social and Cultural Association for their work in spreading Polish culture to all those living in the city. He went on to state the importance of continuing to foster a diverse culture in London, saying that the Polish community has provided a wonderful example of what outsiders from London can bring to the city when they are welcomed.

The Polish Cultural Centre is home to 60 Polish groups located in London, helping to spread the culture both through its own resources and by fostering others with the same mission.
