The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded the New- Britain- based Polish American Foundation of Connecticut Inc. a total of $90,000 to aid Polish speaking individuals with finding jobs. According to the U.S Census, estimated 14,000 people in New Britain claim Polish heritage.
Ted Fitzgerald, the department’s assistant regional director in New England, stated, “These grass-root grants are designed for specific communities. Andre Blasczynski, president of the foundation, commented the funds will provide “training and employment for people limited in English proficiency.” Gov. M Jodi Rell added, “Through the work of Polish-speaking job counselors at the employment office on Broad Street in New Britain, hundreds of Polish speaking people have received employment and training services for the first time.” Rell also stated, “After completing English classes and employment training, people are able to find jobs.” Both Rell and Blasczynski agreed that the program is more of a self-confident for those about to enter the job field in a new country.
