Welcome Danger - directed by Clyde Bruckman & Malcolm St. Clair.jpg
On July 20 The Silent Film Society of Chicago opened its eighth festival in Portage Theater, Chicago. With a life jazz band at the opening ceremony and organ accompaniment on every screened movie photoplayed by organist Mark Noller, Dennis Scott and Jay Warren, the event will be held for six following Fridays.

This year, the opening ceremony marked silent classic comedy directed by Buster Keaton Seven Chances (1925). Among others to be seen at the festival are: Academy Award winner Wings (1927) by William Wellman, Welcome Danger (1929) directed by Clyde Bruckman and Malcolm St. Clair, William Wellman’s Beggars of Life (1928), and Suds directed by Jack Dillon.

On August 3rd the organizers of The Silent Film Festival want to highlight Sergei Eisenstein’s film Battleship Potemkin and discuss its importance in world’s cinematography. The original Meisel-Kliener from the movie will be performed by the 24-piece Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra and conductor Philip Simmons.
